ABOUT US

Hope Achievers Kenya (HAK) is a registered community-based organization (CBO) founded in 2021 in Mathare, one of Africa's largest and most vibrant informal settlements.
Officially registered under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Department of Social Development, with registration number 07819 in 2022, HAK is committed to empowering young women aged 19 and below by providing a holistic support system.

Our main initiatives cover:

  • Daycare and education support for young mothers
  • Mentorship and awareness programs
  • Vocational training for employment
  • Reproductive health education
  • Community-wide food programs
  • Advocacy against gender-based violence
To this date, HAK has empowered, mentored and guided 13 young women directly and reached over 1,000 young women indirectly through partnerships with other organizations.

More about Mathare:

HAK is based in Mathare, a slum with a population of over one million people, located in the heart of Nairobi. Mathare covers 157 hectares of land and is a place where hundreds of thousands of parents raise their children, often without access to education and proper sanitation facilities.

Walking through Mathare, you can feel the slum bustling with life. A large percentage of the population consists of children, young women and youth. Despite the challenging conditions, the sense of community is strong. In response to these challenges, HAK was founded with the dedication to improving the lives of disenfranchised young women, youth, and their families.

What began in 2021 as a mentorship program for young women and youth has grown to address additional needs such as depression, lack of access to vocational skills, high levels of poverty, and increased rates of early pregnancy. These issues needed the expansion of our initiatives to include a broader range of programs.
